travelers' mercies granted
safe passage assured in spite of midwest storms

The fastest route from Memphis TN to east central IN is one which takes the traveler from Memphis TN westward into AR, thence north into MO, thence north and east into IL, thence north and east into IN. A quick look at the weather channel showed we would be in severe storms almost all the way. If we took that route we should have made the trip in approximately 9 hours.

We opted for a route that was both longer in distance and time: Memphis east to Nashville, thence north to and through KY to Louisville, thence north into and through the southern part of IN to Indianapolis, then NE to east central IN. This allowed us to stay in front of the trailing southern end of the storm, and then not encounter the northern leading edge until we got into central IN just south of Indianapolis.

We departed Memphis at 7:30am [CDT] / 8:30am [EDT] and arrived home 10-1/2 hours later. Of course this included necessary stops for fuel and relief and one sit-down meal [40 minutes] in Louisville. We've now been home for about 45 minutes.

I need to unpack, and we'll see if I can get something on for early tomorrow morning - but not guaranteed at this point.
